10 Things I'm really loving | June 22
We went to Oxford for the Jubilee Bank Holiday and stayed at Mollie’s Motel. We loved it, the kids loved it, especially the waffle stacked breakfasts! It’s owned and operated by the same people as Soho House so the style and decor did more than your average roadside pit stop.
Slip pillowcase -I know I’m late to the game, people have been using silk pillowcases from time, but I really love this one from SLIP. I cannot keep a hair scarf on so this makes life much easier, keeps my afro strands strong and also is very skin friendly.
Sex Lives of African Women by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah- Black women are unfairly hyper-sexualised in many arenas, so this was a refreshing read. I love the diversity and varied types of women presented from straight, lesbian, women owning past trauma, dominatrix, polyamorous (and more!) and the sexual lives they lead. Goes to show, there isn’t just one type of Black woman between the sheets.
Chilli Gold sauces- I like my food with a spicy kick and my household just can’t get enough of these expertly prepared sauces. There have different levels of fieriness and they are also tasty. It’s actually quite difficult to create delicious hot pepper sauces and Chilli Gold wins on both accounts.
Durance Room Sprays - We use these to reset the treatment pod during client changeovers at West Room Aesthetics. The White Tea is particularly refreshing and importantly they don’t break the bank, unlike another French brand I know that also starts with a D.
Vacation Chardonnay Oil SPF30 - We’re agreed that sunscreen is all year round. Not only do you get protection, you get glazed goddess vibes. It’s subtle, it’s sexy, it’s giving see you in Santorini!
Lip Oils - the love child of lip balm and lip gloss, lip oils are the new ‘IN’ thing slotting in as part skincare, part make up using ingredients such as squalene, jojoba oil and wheatgerm oil for their moisturising properties. I have Typology Lip Oil in delicious plummy purple colour and Beauty Pie Wondergloss Collagen Lip Oil in Naked Peach on heavy rotation.
by Joy Adenuga Brushes - Firstly, Joy is such a beautiful soul and a stellar make up artist. Her brush collection The Foundation Helpers is the same high quality. I would expect no less. They are suited to all cream, liquid and powder foundations and ethically produced.
Good Wash Day Towels - regular bath towels can be harsh on Afro hair so this is a much kinder option and also a chic upgrade from just using an old t-shirt to dry your hair. The variety of colours are gorgeous too!
