Making microneedling more comfortable

I’ll admit microneedling is not the most comfortable treatment, however, we can’t deny that the results on the skin are impressive. It isn’t my practice to apply numbing cream prior to micro needling as they tend to be vaso-constrictors which slow down the flow of blood, reduce circulation and take it away from the surface of the skin. When micro needling, we want to see some blood or at least a little bit. This helps us able to accurately judge the treatment and overall there is a better result.

If you do regular waxing or sugaring, then micro needling should (technically) be a walk in the park for you. However, if you really cannot take any type of discomfort whatsoever then you can do the following:

  • Apply topical anaesthetic relief like Emla 5% cream on a clean face about 45 mins prior to the treatment. This can be purchased over the counter and will have a numbing effect on the skin for up to 2 hours.

Or

  • Take 2 regular paracetamols (not aspirin or ibuprofen) 45 mins prior to treatment. This will also reduce any pain you may experience.

Ideally, I always want to strengthen your skin using skincare products and other types of facial treatments before even progressing you to microneedling. This will lessen any type of discomfort you may experience. Ultimately, remember that microneedling is not the only type of skincare treatment available for skin rejuvenation, so hit me up at West Room Aesthetics if you want to discuss options to get your skin looking and feeling its best.
